Indonesian worker trampled to death by elephant at Mersing plantation

MERSING: A 54-year-old Indonesian man was killed after he was attacked and trampled to death by an elephant near a plantation at Lenggor, Jemaluang, here.

Mersing OCPD Supt Cyril Edward Nuing said the victim, identified as Yohanes Suban Polo, was found dead with serious injuries to his body by members of the public at about 8pm on Monday (Oct 28).

“The body of the plantation worker was then brought to Mersing Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“We believe that the victim was walking alone during the incident before being attacked by the elephant,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Oct 30).

Supt Cyril added that the postmortem report showed that the victim had died due to polytrauma or multiple abdominal injuries.
