PONTIAN: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) candidate for Tanjung Piai, Karmaine Sardini, aims to meet 10,000 voters daily within the constitution before polling day on Nov 16.
The 66-year-old, who is also the Tanjung Piai Bersatu division chief, said it was his target to cover as much ground as possible during the by-election campaign period.
“The schedule, which is done by the party’s election committee, is already packed with many programmes in town and village areas where I would not stop for a breather as I have to move around.
“I have to meet with everyone even though there are some areas that we lost in the 14th general election (GE14),” he said when met during his walkabout at Jalan Sawah here on Sunday (Nov 3).
Karmaine, who previously contested and lost to Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan in the Pontian parliamentary constituency in GE14, added that the environment was very much different now.
He stressed that not many people within the Pontian constituency knew him, which made it difficult to woo voters in the last general election.
“The people around Tanjung Piai know my name as I am locally born and have served the community for more than 30 years.
“But there are some of them not familiar with my face so hopefully with me going to the ground, they will get to know me better,” he said.
The Tanjung Piai polls on Nov 16 will be a six-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan’s Karmaine, Barisan Nasional ’s Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam, Pan Malaysian Islamic Front (Berjasa)’s Datuk Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, and two independent candidates – Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar and Dr Ng Chuan Lock.
