KOTA KINABALU: Four families affected by flood at Kampung Bambangan in Membakut sub-district were evacuated in the wee hours on Friday (Nov 8).
Kimanis Fire and Rescue Department initially received the emergency call around 9pm on Thursday night (Nov 7) on the rising water level at the village.
“A team of six was sent immediately to the scene, located 10 kilometres (from the fire station) with a utility vehicle and a boat.
“Four families were reportedly affected by the flood and have been moved temporarily to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bambangan.
“During the operation, the team also took a pregnant woman to the Beaufort clinic, which is the nearest facility.
“Operations ended around 2.30am as the water level decreased, ” the state Fire and Rescue operations centre said in an issued statement.
Authorities are bracing for disasters, as rainy days are expected to become more frequent with the northeast monsoon season in.
On Thursday, the State Civil Defence Force said they have a thousand staff on standby for any emergencies arising during the monsoon, which is expected to last until March next year.
