MELAKA: A runaway buffalo caused a stir here when it strayed into hotels and temples at iconic Jonker Walk here on Wednesday (Nov 13).

At press time, Melaka Agriculture, Agro-Based, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Committee chairman Norhizam Hassan Baktee said state Veterinary Services Department and several other agencies were still attempting to capture the buffalo.

He said the buffalo was sighted at about 10am by the locals.

“It’s perplexing why the buffalo appeared here but there are domesticated buffaloes in Melaka,” he said.

Acocrding to Norhizam, some people had messaged him to ask if the buffalo had swum across from Sumatera, Indonesia.

“I guess some of them just wanted to poke fun at the early wild boar issue, where I said there was probability that the animal were crossing the Straits of Malacca from there.

“No one knew wild boars were good swimmers until I highlighted it,” he added.
