KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong says the Pakatan Harapan government should listen to the voice of the people and stop politicking.

The MCA president said the party’s two lawmakers are committed to carrying out a check and balance in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, who won the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat, will perform his duty as a MP and be the voice of the people as well as serve the rakyat.

“The Pakatan government must listen to the voice of the people to improve the economy and stop politicking and all forms of power struggles,” he said in a Facebook posting on Sunday (Nov 17).

Ka Siong also said the party machinery thanked all parties who were involved in the by-election process, including election workers from MCA, Barisan Nasional and PAS, media personnel, the Election Commission, police, medical officers and others.

“Jeck Seng and I will continue to do our best in carrying out check and balance for the future of the nation,” added Ka Siong.

Barisan reclaimed the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat from Pakatan with a thumping majority on Saturday’s by-election. Barisan’s candidate Jeck Seng won with a 15,086-vote majority.

Jeck Seng obtained 25,466 votes while Pakatan’s Karmaine Sardini came out in second place with 10,380 votes.

Meanwhile, Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam got 1,707 votes and Berjasa’s Datuk Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz got 850.

Independents Dr Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar got 380 and 32 votes respectively.

The by-election was held after the previous Pakatan MP Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik died on Sept 21.
