SIBU: A 46-year-old Chinese national has been arrested after the van he was driving collided head-on with a motorcycle and killed the rider.

The deceased has been identified as Delaru Kimbie, 38, from Rumah Janin, Sungai Setuan Besar, Balingian.

His eight-year-old son, David Arden Emang Bill Raimond, who was the pillion rider, was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect was detained under Section 112 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for investigation.

Sibu OCPD, Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, said at about 10.22pm on Nov 20, the suspect was driving the van from Sungai Merah Bazaar to Jalan Ding Lik Kong when he reportedly turned into the right lane all of a sudden.

The victim, who was travelling from the opposite direction, was knocked down by the van.

Delaru, he said, died on the spot while his son was rushed to the hospital.

“We have detained the driver of the van after taking a sample of his blood,” he said.
