KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s statement that Pakatan Harapan can sack him from his post as Prime Minister will be discussed during PKR’s presidential council meeting, says Fahmi Fadzil.
However, the PKR communications director and Lembah Pantai MP said he felt this was nothing more than a quip from Dr Mahathir.
“I think that’s just a statement that he has made.
“It’s a very witty statement, and I think the leaders will be discussing this matter very thoroughly on Saturday during the (PKR) presidential council meeting, ” he told reporters in the Parliament lobby on Thursday (Nov 21).
On Wednesday (Nov 20), Dr Mahathir said that Pakatan could sack him if they wanted.
This was in response to a question from a reporter on whether there would be a power transition in the coalition after the huge setback it suffered in the recent Tanjung Piai by-election.
According to Fahmi, any decision on whether Dr Mahathir stays as Prime Minister should take into account the well-being of the country.
“I think whatever decision we make, we do not unnecessarily jeopardise the functioning of the government.
“And at the same time, we need to take the corrective measures necessary that the people of Tanjung Piai have indicated by their votes.
“This is a good opportunity to take stock of the performances of MPs, of ministers, and of the Cabinet, and see how we can make good our promises and to deliver, ” he said.
