GEORGE TOWN: A factory supervisor was charged at the Sessions Court here Friday (Nov 29) for causing the death of a worker in Balik Pulau.
Faizal Zul, 27, was charged under Section 304a of the Penal Code for culpable homicide.
The accused was said to have resulted in the death of Aidil Asran Omar, 24, at No 7, Jalan Impian 2, Symphony Garden, Balik Pulau, on Nov 19 at 1.30pm.
If convicted, he could face a jail term of up to 30 years and a fine.
Aidil, who sustained injuries to his left ribs, chest and hand, died at 11.15am at the intensive care unit of the Penang Hospital on Nov 23.
Deputy public prosecutor Haresh Prakash did not offer bail, pointing out that the accused had fled the crime scene and could tamper with witnesses.
Faizal’s lawyer Dev Kumaraendran, however, said bail should not be denied on the basis that the accused left the scene and that the court could grant a conditional bail.
Sessions Court judge Norsalha Hamzah granted bail at RM15,000 with one surety.
Other conditions imposed include the accused must report to the nearest police station on the 1st of every month and that he must not contact any of the witnesses.
