JOHOR BARU: The main building of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), which caught fire two years ago, will undergo upgrading works starting next year.
This comes after Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad paid a visit to Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar at Istana Pasir Pelangi here on Wednesday (Dec 4).
In a statement on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page, His Majesty said Dr Dzulkefly had given a briefing on the ongoing repairs at the hospital, which was also attended by Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
“This includes upgrading the electrical wiring works for the hospital’s 70-year-old main building.
“The former Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where the tragic fire took place in Oct, 2016, will also be repaired and refurbished,” His Majesty said.
Sultan Ibrahim said he had reminded the minister that there was a dire need for another hospital in Johor Baru, adding that he wanted his subjects in Johor to enjoy improved public health services.
His Majesty said they also discussed the development of the proposed Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Centre, which is dedicated to the treatment, research and education of cancer.
“The Asian American Medical Group (AAMG), which is spearheading the project, requested the minister for more cancer experts to offer improved service for patients.
“This cancer centre will realise the wishes of Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil, who has always wanted to extend help to cancer patients,” wrote Sultan Ibrahim.
On Monday (Dec 2) night, Tunku Ismail had expressed his disappointment over the Federal Government’s lack of efforts in repairing the ICU ward at HSA following the fire.
