Fistfight outside building as PKR Youth congress convenes

MELAKA: Blows were allegedly exchanged and stones thrown between rival supporters outside the building where the PKR Youth congress is taking place.

It is learnt that an unidentified man sustained a head injury after he was hit by a stone fistfights were witnessed outside the Melaka International Trade Centre(MITC) hall in Ayer Keroh here on Friday (Dec 6).

Heated arguments also broke out at the Wanita PKR congress when a few outstation delegates learnt they were not listed as attendees.

The commotion, which started at about 12.10pm, spilled out to the main road when the two rival factions – one wearing black T-shirts with the PKR logo and the other in blue party shirts – were seen shouting at and shoving each other.

Delegate Zaidi Yaakob from Sik, Kedah believed that the altercation occurred because a few Youth members were not allowed to enter the hall despite having entry passes.

“Since morning, arguments have been happening here, It’s shameful,” he said.

S. Pubalan, another delegate from PKR Gading Mas, Sarawak, said he was taken aback to see such an ugly situation.

“This doesn’t happen in Sarawak and I have to send a report to my leaders,” he said

The situation calmed down after both groups left for Friday prayers at about 12.50pm.

PKR Youth Chief Akmal Nasrullah Md Nasir said he would leave it to the police to investigate the fight.

“There was some pushing but we will leave it to the police to investigate,” he said during a press conference at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here.

He also praised the security team for handling the situation.

“Anyone who tries to sabotage or undermine the party – it doesn’t matter which camp these people are from. We will take action,” he said.
